Buffalo Newborn Photographer

Lifestyle newborn sessions have become a popular choice. Getting out of the house with a newborn can be a huge challenge! A lot of parents realize this and choose to bring the photographer to their home instead.

What should you do to prepare?

Crank that thermostat! Have the house on the warmer side so baby is nice and comfy. Feed the baby! Baby should be fed shortly before I arrive. This way we will have a happy and (hopefully) sleepy baby. Please only prepare the few rooms we will use. I am a Mom, I don’t see messes. Don’t go crazy scrubbing your kitchen and bathrooms. I promise you, your photographer doesn’t care. Spend that time with your new baby! These sessions usually take place in the living room, bedrooms and anywhere else where there is great natural light. Just have these rooms tidied up a bit!

Wardrobe choices are important!

I suggest staying with muted, neutral, earthy tones. Beige, mustard, olive green, white and rust are all great colors. If anyone is wearing a print I would suggest everyone else wear a solid. Little Bipsy and Baileys Blossoms are great for basic solids and chic outfits for toddlers. H&M is also a great option for shopping online and in store. If you prefer to shop local, Main and Downing in Hamburg is THE BEST. I highly suggest bare feet for the whole family. It gives a much cleaner look rather than socks. Baby should be in a swaddle, diaper, onesie or some sort of minimalistic outfit. We want to capture all the details. Tiny toes, chubby thighs and little fingernails.

I don’t bring any props!

These sessions are representing you in your natural environment of your own home. Maybe have a headband and a few different swaddles on hand. I love Kyte baby and Kate Quinn for buttery soft bamboo swaddles.

Will siblings be involved?

Yes! Absolutely yes! My best advice for siblings is lots of prep. Talk to them about me coming to the house. Make sure they know what to expect. Keep snacks on hand and maybe a little reward for after!

Can our pets be involved in the photos?

Yes! Of course! My college degree is in Veterinary Technology so I will never turn down pets, in fact I will encourage them! Have a lint roller handy incase we have any crazy hair situations.

How long will your session take?

Plan for a hour or two. Every session is different and depends on baby. We won’t rush. Feeding and changing breaks are more than welcome. Also, if you would like nursing pictures this is a great time for that.
